After surveying new teachers at my school, one problem that these new educators self-diagnosed was a difficulty managing student behaviors during lessons. After diving deeper and conducting interviews with teachers, we determined that the root of the problem may be related to limited student engagement during whole-group instruction. As a solution to this problem, I developed and implemented a self-paced e-learning course on Total Participation Techniques, designed to provide new teachers with strategies for facilitating whole-group participation and engagement during lessons. After implementing this training, 93% of teachers stated that they learned new, practical strategies for student engagement and 86% of teachers stated that they saw reduced off-task behavior during lessons after implementing the strategies discussed in the training.
